Something more about minesweeping

These days mine sweeping is becoming rarely used and (luckily) replaced by mine hunting.
The main difference between these methods is when mine are swept, the ship first has to navigate
over the dangerzone and could touch a mine or be not far enough away before a mine was made harmless.
A Minesweeper can be compared with a fish trawler, who also has to drag all kinds of tools behind the ship.
To catch mines you don't need nets of course, but depending the kind of mine you need cutters, hammers,
electromagnetic cables or a combination of all these different methods of mine sweeping.

With the development of the sonar, a radar for underwater surveillance, it's common use these days to
locate mines from a safe distance and when needed sent a unmanned craft the make the mine harmless.
That's why the most of the new ships are "minehunters" and minesweepers are becoming historical...
